Part 3: What On EARTH Should I Do With My Kids This Weekend? A Series on Field Work.

How To Make The Most Of Your Play.

In our previous post, we talked about what Field Work Is and Why it is AWESOME!

Before you schedule your weekends, know that you do not have to be the only one leading your kiddo’s field work. Anyone in your family can… and let me widen the net for you - at grOH! we define family very broadly! Anyone who spends an extended period of time with your kiddos becomes part of your family, so share the exploration with grandparents, family friends, nannies and neighbors! They can take the kiddos on field work for you OR join you on your adventure!

The More people you involve, the more conversations you can have, and the more learning everyone does and fun everyone has!

Here are some quick tips on how to make the most of your time out on Field Work with your kiddos!

Once you go on a Field Study once, are you done?

NO! In fact, we think families should take the children to the same place to study the same topic again and again! We recommend returning to the same location several times! You may choose to alternate going to a different location to observe the same topic… but repeating play on the same topic for 3-6 weeks is our goal!

This is great for you and for them for, well, many reasons, but I will just highlight 2 here:

Kiddos learn from repetition. The more they experience something, the more rich their memories and ideas become!

Repeating a plan is much easier for Grown-ups. Do the heavy lifting (ie. planning and figuring out where to park or what bus to take) once, and then hit repeat!

Let’s work together to make our lives a little easier! Play more, Win more! Enjoy!

We help you plan your own Field Work OR we take the planning off the table… we’re full of ideas to share:
